- ========================================================================
- MazZoft's first official WIN32 APPLICATION : StarSlayer
- ========================================================================
-
- StarSlayer makes it possible to read the contents of a typical Windows 9x/NT
- password edit box, which is usually covered by asterisks (*). This can in
- fact be extremely useful in some cases, as is shown by the following thank-
- you letter, sent in by a grateful StarSlayer user who wishes to remain
- anonymous.
-
- 'A couple of years ago I signed up for a modem account. The installation
- instructions described in great detail how to set up the 'external
- connection'. It all boiled down to entering the user name and the
- password which came on a small piece of paper together with the installation
- instructions. My user name was 'rzwiers', my password was one of those
- computer-generated ones, something like 'KfEwDf93'. Once I had typed in the
- password (twice), the password was saved by Windows so that I would never
- have to type it in again. For about two years, the account worked like a
- charm. Then, however, the account had to be reinstalled on a new PC. After
- a thorough search of my house, I came to the conclusion that I had lost the
- installation instructions. This didn't seem to be a problem at first, because
- all of the TCP/IP settings could be read from my old PC. But the nightmare
- began when it became clear to me that there was no way of recovering the
- password that I had typed in two years earlier. I tried guessing the password,
- but to no avail, because like I mentioned before, the password was something
- like 'KfEwDl93', in other words: impossible to guess OR remember.
- I felt a very reluctant to call the provider and explain how seriously I
- fucked up and needed their assistance in getting back my password, especially
- since the installation instructions mentioned over and over again that the
- password should never get lost. Well, it did, it was my fault, and it seemed
- I had to pay the price for it. Luckily for me however, StarSlayer finally
- made an end to the nightmare. A simple drag-and-drop action did the trick.
- Thanks to StarSlayer, I was able to resume my internetting and therefore,
- I am deeply grateful to MazZoft for creating this amazing piece of
- software.'

-
- How to use
- ----------
- Open the password dialog, execute StarSlayer.exe and follow the instructions
- on the main window. Keep in mind that StarSlayer does not work with all
- password dialogs (for example, the dialogs of the Internet Explorer seem
- to be protected a little bit better).
